IMMIGRATION: OUR FIGHT FOR GREEN CARDS CONTINUES!

Advocacy:

In the last quarter, Adhikaar’s staff and members took part in the ‘We Are Home’ TPS Week of Action from May 9 to 12, 2022. The actions put pressure on Congress and President Biden on the urgency to redesignate/designate TPS for Nepal and other countries. Along with our Communities United for Status and Protection (CUSP) coalition partners, we spoke U.S. Senators and Representatives from across the country in a series of lobby visits on Capitol Hill.

Organizing:

During the We Are Home week of action, we mobilized 21 of our members from across the country to take part in person in Washington, D.C. All of them met with members of Congress to demand TPS redesignation for Nepal along with countries that are still waiting for TPS designations. 

We prepared our member delegates through a series of meetings on cultural sensitivity and the power of stories. Three members facilitated a “leadership and storytelling” training with coalition partners. 

 

Services:

Intake of new cases related to immigration, workers’ rights, fraud, government benefits, and others, impacting over 36 individuals and families.
