Call your Member of Congress!

Given the recent decision by the Department of Homeland Security to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Nepal, the time is NOW to pressure your member of Congress to support and defend TPS recipients for a permanent solution.

Call your members of Congress and ask them to sign on to the following bills in Congress:

  • American Promise Act 2017 (H.R. 4253)
  • SECURE Act (S. 2144)

How to call your members of Congress:

  1. Call ‪202-224-3121‬. Follow the instructions given on the phone and call BOTH your state’s U.S. Senator and Representative.
  2. Speak with whoever picks up or leave a message:

For U.S. Representatives, use this message:

“My name is NAME and I live in CITY/TOWN, STATE, ZIP CODE. I am part of/support the Nepali community and request the Representative to support TPS recipients from Nepal by supporting Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez’s American Promise Act. TPS for Nepal was terminated on April 26 and joined the many other countries that no longer have TPS. We must ensure that those with TPS be protected, and be given a pathway to permanent residency. We request that your office support this legislation. Thank you.”

For U.S. Senators, use this message:

“My name is NAME and I live in CITY/TOWN, STATE, ZIP CODE. I am part of/support the Nepali community and request the Representative to support TPS recipients from Nepal by supporting Senator Van Hollen’s SECURE Act. TPS for Nepal was terminated on April 26 and joined the many other countries that no longer have TPS. We must ensure that those with TPS be protected, and be given a pathway to permanent residency. We request that your office support this legislation. Thank you.”
